The Society

The Carroll County Genealogical Society (CCGS) was founded in 1976 by twelve charter members, all residents of Carroll County Georgia.  Now we have about 185 Members scattered across the United Sates.  We still hold fast to our original purpose - To preserve local family and public records; evaluate and share those records with interested genealogists.

In keeping with those goals, CCGS presents monthly programs, publishes a quarterly journal, maintains close ties with our local library's Special Collection Room, and encourage members to add their family history to our collection.  In the past we have sponsored many annual workshops and conducted genealogy classes for beginners, open to members and nonmembers.

Our Society has also published several books of county records, such as deed abstracts, census records, cemetery surveys, indicies to our early quarterlies, and assisted in reprinting some histories.

Membership is open to anyone interested in the subject of genealogy.   The cost is $20 per year, which includes the Carroll County Genealogical Quarterly.

The Society meets on the fourth Thursday of each month, except for November and December.

New Publication Now Available

The Carroll County Genealogical Society is pleased to announce the addition of "The Carroll County Story as told by The People" to our publications inventory.  The Carroll County Story was originally printed in 1976 during the Sesquicentennial-Bicentennial clebration in Carrollton, Georgia and has been reprinted in limited quantities for 2009.

This is an excellent publication detailing the history of Carroll County's many communities, chruches, schools and it's people.  As quoted in the book, "This volume is of, by and for the people.  It is unique and surely will take it's place among the few valuable records of our county history."

The new volume is 96 pages in length and includes a full name index that was not in the original publication.  The book has been published in soft-bound form and a limited number of hard-bound copies as well.  Soft-bound copies are $20.00 and hard-bound copies are $25.00 (Georgia residents must had 7% sales tax when ordering), shipping and handling is included in the price of the book.
